We love London! London has always been a ‘go-to’ place for us as a couple, as a family and as photographers! As Samuel Johnson so famously remarked – “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford.” This is as true today as it was back in the 1770’s!
One of our ‘go-to’ places has always been Borough Market. It is a place where Londoners and tourists visit to connect, to share food and awaken their culinary senses. Its mission is simply to share knowledge and inspire people about food. Every visit is fascinating as you take a look behind the stalls, chat to the traders and find infinite culinary inspiration!
Bread Ahead unites the baking expertise of Matthew Jones and Justin Gellatly to make quality breads and baking accessible to all. Creating the best possible products from the best British ingredients is a concept close to their hearts. Matthew and Justin have made it their mission to keep London stocked with fine British baking. Bread Ahead’s bakery opened its doors in September 2013 supplying fresh produce daily to their Borough Market customers via their stall, and to local restaurants and delis. In 2014 they opened their Bakery school.
The original Bread Ahead stall in London’s Borough Market sells bread fresh from their ovens just around the corner. Along with a range of lovingly fermented sourdough breads, they sell classics including cheese and olive sticks, white tin loaves, focaccia and ciabatta. All looked delicious and seriously tempting!
We’d like to say a special thank you to Marco and Josephine, who so graciously agreed to have their photo taken for our 52 portrait project! They were hard at work on a very busy morning in Jubilee Place, and still agreed to pose for a couple of shots between serving customers!
