Windsor Ready Steady Pro Photo Walk – March 2015 :

Street Documentary Photography

Being a wedding and lifestyle photographer means you often work alone, especially after the wedding when you’re editing images, creating wedding album designs, doing administration work and preparing for the next event! We don’t often get the opportunity to meet other photographers in person due to workloads and locations but when you do get the chance to meet-up, it usually turns into a ‘busman’s holiday’!

Last weekend we met up with several members of the Ready Steady Pro community which is for both professional and aspiring professional photographers from all over the world, run impeccably by Michael Rammell. Michael puts in many hours of good work and also presents the Ready Steady Pro Podcast.

The meeting place was Esquires Coffee Shop in the centre of Royal Windsor, directly opposite Windsor Castle, the weekend residence of The Queen. Despite several photographers being unable to attend, we set off to do some street and documentary photography of the town, its residents and tourists!

Street photography is essentially documentary photography aimed at capturing people or places. This style of photography has been popular since the 1890’s and is even more popular now through the use of both DSLR and mirrorless cameras, such as the Fuji X-T1 or Olympus OM-E-M5.

We predomiently stayed around the Castle/town centre area and followed Castle Hill  down to The Long Walk – which is a 2.65mile straight walk from the George IV Gateway at Windsor Castle to the 1829 Copper Horse statue of King George III on top of Snow Hill – before walking back into the town centre via the High Street to finish at the Central Train Station.

Below are a selection of our images taken on the day. Her Majesty the Queen was at Windsor Castle on the day of our visit but we are pleased to say she made no attempt to ‘photobomb’ us!
