It was originally built as a rectory in the 1850’s by a great friend of the author Charles Dickens. The property is situated in 14 acres of grounds which include beautifully maintained gardens and orchards. It is now a privately owned wedding venue and restaurant. The owner resides in the first floor apartment at the property.
Access from the main road is very easy with 2 separate entrances which bring you to the front of the main building. We love the fact that there is ample shade from the established trees, perfect for us to capture informal and formal photographs of the bride and groom and the wedding party’s arrival.
Wedding ceremonies can be held outdoors in the gardens with the main centrepiece being a wonderful gazebo. In the event of poor weather conditions, the ceremony can take place in the light and airy function room which looks onto the gardens.
The lawns and grounds are beautifully maintained and there is a lovely surprise for couples (and photographers!) as behind the rear wall lies a pond and the orchards. It really is the perfect place to capture some beautiful natural wedding photographs..
As wedding photographers, we love the scope which the grounds allow for informal and relaxed photographs of guests mingling. There is also ample space for formal group shots, if required. The open shade allows us to place our brides and grooms in soft, diffused light to capture that ‘dreamy’ feel associated with those special moments.
As keen gardeners ourselves, we love the grounds of The Knowle for it’s beautiful manicured lawns, the roses and also the clever layout and design of the gardens. We also appreciate the amount of time and effort that goes into planning and maintaining such a beautiful garden.
