I absolutely love photographing a Swallows Oast wedding. As a recommended photographer at this beautiful East Sussex wedding venue, it’s always a pleasure to return and capture another unique celebration in such a characterful setting.

In 2022, Olga & Nick chose Swallows Oast in Ticehurst for their wedding day, and I was delighted when they booked Oakhouse Photography to document their celebration. From relaxed morning preparations to an unexpected sunset in the meadow, their day was full of warmth, atmosphere and unforgettable moments.

Bride & Groom Preparations At Woodlands Park Farm, Rotherfield

Olga & Nick began their wedding day at Woodlands Park Farm in Rotherfield, East Sussex, a stunning holiday rental property set within beautiful countryside. With its own private lake and peaceful surroundings, it provided the perfect backdrop for relaxed and intimate wedding preparations.

I photographed both Olga and Nick getting ready alongside their families, all of whom were staying at the property. The atmosphere was calm, joyful and full of anticipation as everyone prepared to head to Swallows Oast wedding venue for the ceremony.

Capturing these morning moments is always one of my favourite parts of the day — the laughter, final touches, and those quiet in-between moments before everything begins.

Outdoor Ceremony At The Pavilion, Swallows Oast Wedding Venue

Despite light rain earlier in the morning, Olga & Nick were able to hold their ceremony outdoors at The Pavilion at Swallows Oast — one of the venue’s most sought-after features. Thankfully, the rain cleared just in time, leaving a fresh, romantic atmosphere for their vows.

The Pavilion provides a truly special setting for an outdoor wedding ceremony in East Sussex, surrounded by countryside views and the rustic charm that makes Swallows Oast so popular with couples.

After the ceremony, Olga & Nick walked back down the aisle as newlyweds, greeted by a joyful confetti throw from their friends and family — always a highlight to photograph.

Following time spent mingling with guests, we made our way down to the meadow and woodland area for relaxed couple portraits. Swallows Oast offers incredible variety for wedding photography, from rustic barns to open fields and tucked-away woodland spots, all within easy reach.

The Barn Wedding Reception At Swallows Oast

The reception took place inside the beautifully restored barn at Swallows Oast. With its exposed beams, warm lighting and spacious layout, it creates a relaxed yet atmospheric space for dining and dancing.

Olga & Nick’s reception was informal, lively and full of energy — exactly the kind of celebration that makes for natural, documentary-style wedding photography. As the evening progressed, the dance floor filled quickly and the party carried on well into the night.

Couple Portraits In The Meadow And At Sunset

Although the day had been overcast, I noticed a hint of clearing sky as the evening approached. I suggested a quick walk back down to the meadow, and Olga & Nick were more than happy to steal a few quiet moments away from their guests.

We were incredibly fortunate — the clouds parted just enough to give us a breathtaking sunset. The soft golden light across the meadow created the most romantic setting for evening portraits. These unplanned moments often become some of the most treasured images from the day.

After returning to the barn for cake cutting and their first dance, we also captured a couple of atmospheric night portraits outside before I left them to enjoy the rest of their celebration.
