There is something inherently romantic about a Sussex barn wedding, and Zara and Daniel’s big day at Swallows Oast in Ticehurst was no exception. This beautiful country venue provided the perfect rustic backdrop for a celebration that was as elegant as it was relaxed.

Morning Preparations at the Swallows Oast Bridal Suite

Our day began early, capturing the quiet (and occasionally chaotic!) excitement of bridal preparations. Zara, joined by the bridesmaids and both the bride and groom’s mothers, made full use of the Swallows Oast bridal suite.

This space is a real gem for photographers; it’s a dedicated area where the party can prep in comfort, and its proximity to the ceremony area makes for a stress-free transition. While the girls were finishing their final touches, Daniel arrived a few hours ahead of the service. This gave us the perfect window to capture some sharp portraits of him and his family, along with those all-important detail shots of the venue before the guests arrived.

An Idyllic Outdoor Ceremony At The Pavilion

The British weather was on its best behaviour, allowing the couple to hold a wonderful service in the outdoor ceremony area. It’s a fantastic spot that really leans into the “country barn” aesthetic.

Once the “I dos” were official, we moved into a mix of formal group shots and documentary-style photography. This part of the day is always a highlight—capturing those candid, unscripted moments of joy during the drink’s reception is where the real story of the wedding lives.

Couple Portraits in the Meadow & Barn Reception

As the afternoon mellowed, we whisked Zara and Daniel away to the Swallows Oast meadow. Taking a few moments away from the crowd for couple portraits isn’t just about the photos—it gives the newlyweds a rare chance to catch their breath and soak in the day before the evening’s festivities begin.

The light in the meadow was spectacular, providing a soft, golden glow that complemented the couple’s style perfectly. After our session, it was back to the main barn for the wedding breakfast and a night of celebrations on the dance floor.
