Summer Wedding at The Moat at Wrotham | Rebecca & Spencer
Rebecca & Spencer’s Summer Wedding at The Moat at Wrotham
In the height of the 2023 summer season, I had the absolute pleasure of capturing Rebecca and Spencer’s wedding at The Moat at Wrotham. Situated on London Road in the heart of the Kent countryside, this venue offers a masterclass in blending traditional heritage with contemporary style.
Rustic Romance: The Quintessential Kentish Barn
For couples dreaming of a ‘country-chic’ aesthetic, The Moat at Wrotham is a hidden gem. It strikes that elusive balance between a relaxed, traditional pub atmosphere and a sophisticated, dedicated event space.
The centerpiece is undoubtedly The Barn. Airy yet intimate, it provides a stunning blank canvas for couples with a rustic wedding vision. With ancient timber beams draped in delicate fairy lights, the space emits a warm, inviting glow that makes every photograph feel timeless.
The Moat isn’t just a venue; it’s a destination for couples who want their wedding to feel special. The contrast between the dark wood of the barn and the vibrant summer greenery provides a backdrop that is, quite frankly, second to none.
The Arrivals
While both Rebecca and Spencer chose to prepare away from the venue, I arrived at The Moat ahead of the ceremony to capture the guests arriving.
Spencer was the first to arrive, allowing us plenty of time for documentary-style coverage of this and of the guests’ arrival. This ‘fly-on-the-wall’ approach is perfect for catching those candid moments of laughter and greetings, alongside some classic portraits of the groom’s party.
Shortly after, Rebecca made a striking entrance in a chauffeur-driven Mercedes E350. She looked breathtaking in a gown from the renowned Christina K Bridal Boutique, perfectly suited to the day’s elegant yet relaxed vibe.
An Emotional Ceremony with a Swing
The atmosphere was set early by the incredible Miss Holiday Swing, who treated guests to a curated selection of romantic, vintage-inspired tracks.
The ceremony itself was the perfect mix of high emotion and lighthearted joy. A particular highlight was the couple’s son taking on the role of ringbearer – a moment that brought a smile to everyone’s face and provided some of the most touching photos of the day.
The Reception: Dancing the Night Away
As the sun began to set, the energy shifted from romantic to electric. Guests were entertained during the reception with a magician, the excellent George Cope. The evening was soundtracked by Beer Pressure, a live band that certainly lived up to their name. They kept the dancefloor packed and the atmosphere buzzing – I may have even found myself tapping along behind the lens!
Whether you’re planning a sun-soaked summer soirée or a cosy winter gathering, the Barn at The Moat is a versatile, characterful choice for any Kentish wedding.
