A Classic London Wedding at St John the Baptist Church, Eltham

I recently had the absolute pleasure of capturing Ella and Rich’s big day as their Eltham wedding photographer. Their celebration was a perfect blend of traditional London elegance and a relaxed, ‘home-grown’ marquee reception.

Bridal Prep & Elegant Details

The morning began at Ella’s family home. Capturing the bridal preparations is always one of my favourite parts of the day – the nervous energy, the champagne toasts, and the intricate detail shots.

Ella looked breathtaking in her Maggie Sottero wedding dress, sourced from the renowned Gillian Roberts Bridal. To complete the quintessential London vibe, the wedding party travelled to the church in a fleet of iconic white London taxis, which certainly turned heads (and stopped traffic!) on the way.

The Ceremony at St John the Baptist Church, Eltham

The couple chose St. John the Baptist Church for their vows. This historic Eltham landmark, with its towering spire and intricate architecture, provides a sense of grandeur and reverence that is hard to match.

Inside the church, the atmosphere was one of pure unity as Ella and Rich exchanged their vows. After the service, we made use of the church’s rear grounds – a hidden gem that offers a gorgeous, lush backdrop for intimate couple portraits and family group shots.

A Marquee Reception at Home

Following the ceremony, the celebrations moved back to the family home, where a stunning marquee had been transformed for the wedding breakfast.

Garden marquee weddings offer such a personal touch; they allow for a bespoke transition from a formal church ceremony to a high-energy evening party. From the heartfelt speeches to the sunset celebrations, it was a day to remember.

Local Tip: If you’re getting married at St. John the Baptist, the front steps are iconic for that ‘just married’ exit, but don’t overlook the rear gardens for your private portraits – the light hits perfectly there in the afternoon!
