Port Lympne Moroccan Courtyard Wedding | Michelle & Songea

A Tropical Escape in Kent: Michelle & Songea’s Port Lympne Wedding

Last month, we had the absolute privilege of returning to one of the UK’s most unique venues for Michelle and Songea’s big day. As a Port Lympne wedding photographer, I’ve seen many beautiful celebrations, but this one was truly historic: we were the first photographers to capture a wedding ceremony in the hotel’s newly restored Moroccan Courtyard.

Ceremony in the Moroccan Courtyard

The Grade II listed mansion at Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve is famous for its ornate rooms, but the Moroccan Courtyard is something truly special. Decorated with authentic antiques handpicked from Marrakesh, this tranquil, sun-drenched outdoor space was the perfect setting for Michelle and Songea’s intimate ceremony.

Accompanied by the gentle notes of a harpist, the courtyard – adorned in stunning florals – felt like a private oasis in the heart of the Kent countryside.

Bridal Prep & Wedding Ceremony

The day began with Michelle arriving early to get ready on-site. We captured those precious, quiet moments of bridal preparation with her family before heading out to meet Songea and their guests.

Following the beautiful ceremony, guests enjoyed reception drinks on the terrace. This gave us the perfect window to capture a blend of formal portraits and our signature documentary-style shots, documenting the genuine laughter and joy of the afternoon.

A Private Safari & Giraffe Cottage

One of the most magical aspects of a Port Lympne wedding is the wildlife experience. After the afternoon celebrations, we captured the couple as they headed off to Giraffe Cottage for an intimate evening meal.

The highlight? A private sunset safari across the reserve. It was a spectacular and adventurous way to conclude such a meaningful day.

Why we love this venue: Port Lympne offers a ‘destination wedding’ feel without leaving the UK. Whether you want the grandeur of the mansion or the exotic vibes of the Moroccan Courtyard, every corner of this reserve offers a world-class backdrop for photography.
