We love shooting in unusual places. When the opportunity to take portrait photographs of Cliff of Bexley Brewery came up as part of our 52 Portraits project, how could we refuse! We were quite excited about our first trip to our local brewery!
About Bexley Brewery
Brewing has a great tradition in London and Bexley Brewery Ltd is carrying on that tradition. First opened in September 2014, Bexley Brewery is run by Cliff and Jane Murphy. Based at an industrial estate in South East London, Cliff brews a wide range of ales which he and Jane have named after areas in the London Borough of Bexley.
Craft beers include BOB ‘Bexley’s Own Beer’, Golden Acre – named after an area of parkland near where we live (the land was owned previously by Oxford University which was new information for us!) and Redhouse (named after the William Morris arts and craft house in Red House Lane which is owned by The National Trust). These are just a few of the ales which Cliff and Jane brew for sale at their unit and through pubs and restaurants in the South East.
Cliff and Jane’s work has been recognised by the borough and they were Bexley Business Awards winners in 2015.
At our photo shoot Cliff was great fun to photograph and we captured some wonderful images of him.
We must confess to thoroughly enjoying the Golden Acre ale which Cliff and Jane kindly gave us – after the photo shoot of course!

A green parakeet has been adopted by the brewery as their logo because the parklands around Bexley are home to a large population of parakeets. These can often be seen in woodlands, churchyards and gardens across the borough!
